Returning faces and championship chases

The school summer holidays may have only just started but we’re already approaching the Classic Touring Car Racing Club’s penultimate meeting of the season.

Snetterton in Norfolk plays host to rounds 12 and 13 of our 2025 championships, with only the final two races at Silverstone in October to follow.

Among the early entries, there is a warm welcome back to the Pre-’83 Group 1 grid for club stalwart Mark Fowler in his Ford Capri Mk3. Mark is a former class champion and outright race winner in his Vince Woodman tribute car. It hasn’t been on track for almost a decade, during which time he’s mostly been at the wheel of his Ford Escort Mk1, but will return at Snetterton.

Also set to be in action at Snetterton is modern Mini racing star Harry Hickton in his dad Dave’s glorious Opel Kadett GT/E. A race winner at our season opener, the combination haven’t been in action since.

If you plan to race at Snetterton but haven’t entered yet, please do so as soon as possible. It really does help the club. While this is an MSVR-run meeting, entries are still made via the usual BARC online system: https://www.barc.net/competitor-registration/

With just two race weekends remaining, Snetterton could prove crucial in the championship chase for all seven categories in action.

James Ibbotson, Hillman Imp
Will James Ibbotson, an overall winner in 2022, be able to clinch the Pre-’66 title?

Pre-’66 points leader James Ibbotson will be hoping to get his Hillman Imp repaired in time to score the points he needs to deny Ian Thompson and his Lotus Cortina back-to-back titles.

Jonathan Corker’s Datsun 510 leads the way in Pre-’83, with Nic Grindrod (Escort Mk1) sure to keep him under pressure. Pre-’93 has been a seesaw battle between the BMW M3s of Will Davison and Ian Bower, whose class dominance has also given him the edge in Classic Thunder.

Historic Thunder looks to be a duel between Rikki Cann’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage and reigning champion Colin Voyce (Escort Mk1). Tim Mizen (Ford Fiesta) is also aiming to retain his title in the Blue Oval Saloon Series, while Dave Cave will hope to cap a fine debut season by clinching the honours in Pre-’03 Touring Cars.
