BOSS expands eligibility

The Burton Power Blue Oval Saloon Series will be reinvigorated for 2026, with some significant changes to the class structure and eligibility designed to boost competitor numbers.

Tyres will now be free for all classes. That means there will be no need for a separate Slicks class. Cars that previously ran in this class will now be incorporated into the existing capacity-based classes.

A new class is being added for spaceframe Fords. These include the popular Escort RSR manufactured by SHP Engineering, which will be allowed into the series for the first time. Any other spaceframe Fords – for example, those built to Special Saloon regulations – will also be eligible.

Finally, Ford cars with non-Ford engines will also be allowed into the series for the first time. These will go up one class from where they would otherwise sit.

CTCRC chairman Stuart Caie said: “We want our series to be as open and welcoming as possible. We know there are a lot of RSR Escorts around and people have been asking if they can race with us for four or five years. So we’ve listened and we’re delighted to say they can now join us in BOSS.

“If anyone has a Special Saloon Anglia or anything like that, they are more than welcome to join too.

“And we know that nobody much is building a heavy old Pinto engine to put in a Mk2 Escort anymore, for example, it just costs too much money. You can get cheaper, more reliable power from other engines.

“We already allow transplanting with other Ford engines, such as Zetecs, Duratecs or Ecoboosts, or multi-valve specials based on Cosworth blocks. But we’re now widening the scope so if someone wants to come and race with a Vauxhall ‘Red Top’ or Honda K-series, they can.”
