Firenza Fun

Another CTCRC member is the subject of a three-page feature in Autosport magazine this week (issue dated 16 May 2024).

Tony Davies’s Transpeed Firenza is 50 years old this year. Built in the same Dealer Team Vauxhall workshops in Shepreth as Gerry Marshall’s famous ‘Old Nail’, the 2.5-litre Special Saloon is still going strong in Historic Thunder to this day.

Polesitter for the first-ever Thundersaloon race at Brands Hatch in 1985, it was a regular podium finisher that year and topped the standings in Class B.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing as the car has had a few scrapes along the way, but it remains a magnificent machine.

The article tells the story of the Firenza and the Hove-based Davies family, as brothers John and Mike also race regularly with the CTCRC in their Pre-’66 Mini Cooper S.
