CTCRC and Scalextric Launch Fred Francis Award at Thruxton Retro

The Classic Touring Car Racing Club, in partnership with Scalextric, is proud to announce the introduction of the Fred Francis Award. This prestigious new accolade celebrates the legacy of Fred Francis, the inventor of Scalextric, one of the most influential figures in British model motor racing history.

The inaugural Fred Francis Award will be presented to the winner of the Pre-’66 Touring Car race on Saturday, 4 July at Thruxton Retro 2026.

Created through a collaboration between CTCRC and Scalextric, the award is designed to honour Fred Francis’s pioneering spirit while further enhancing the profile and prestige of both the CTCRC championship and the Thruxton Retro event.

Adding further significance to the occasion, Julia Francis, daughter of Fred Francis, has been invited by Scalextric to attend the event and personally present the trophy to the winning driver.

The introduction of the Fred Francis Award marks an exciting new chapter for the championship and provides competitors with the opportunity to compete for a trophy that celebrates one of Britain’s most enduring innovators.
